Abstract The possibility of evolution reversibility for physical systems by a change of direction in the temporal flow is analyzed from a semiotic perspective. It is explained that, notwithstanding the mechanistic analytic conceptions, the Shannonian conception of communication naturally induces a temporal irreversibility. Accepting any physical measurement as a semiotic act in the Shannonian perspective, it is possible to conclude that irreversibility is an inevitable trait of any physical process.
