Abstract: In the critical reception of Heidegger’s hermeneutic phenomenology, there has aroused a debate about an achievement ascribed to the existential analytic of Being and Time: the derivative status of propositional intentionality on a more basic class of non-propositional intentional behaviors. Such behaviors would not be structured by a conceptual content, but based on a network of competent practices performed without a representational mediation. In the present paper, we examine an aspect that has received little attention in this debate, namely the nexus between the primacy of praxis in the intentional opening of the world and the primacy of possibility over actuality in the existential domain. The hypothesis states that the primacy of projection onto existential possibilities has to be accounted for as a more basic ontological structure in the intentional openness.
