Abstract Roger Scruton is one of the most relevant conservative philosophers in the British and Burkean tradition of conservatism. Our aim is to present the concept of “culture of repudiation” that is expressed in his work and to assess what are the consequences of that “culture” for Western liberal democracies. According to Scruton, the loss of a national loyalty that sustains democracy and the growing radicalization of Muslim communities in Europe are a by-product of that “culture of repudiation”.
