| Abstract | Starting from the premise that human being, in addition to being rational, is also a religious being, this study aims to investigate the relevance of religion, as a human creation, to be an integral part of school programs alongside other areas of the humanities and sciences. It focuses on the role of teaching religion as playing a fundamental role in breaking down prejudices and promoting tolerance and mutual coexistence between faith and reason, when it transmits religion in a historical and critical way. Therefore, an analysis was carried out of manuals for the history subject of the current 7th year of the 3rd cycle of basic education in Portugal and of the normative documents relating to this subject to observe how this teaching and transmission of historical information is carried out regarding to the religious context. |
