| Abstract | This paper explores the relationship between truth, justice, and peace, drawing on Pacem in Terris and Fratelli Tutti to highlight the strict conditions of legitimate defensive war. While peace is more than the absence of war, it must be grounded in justice and truth, lest it become a capitulation to injustice. The reflection considers historical and contemporary conflicts, showing how appeals to “preventive war” or “defense at all costs” fail to meet ethical and juridical standards. Special attention is given to the moral limits of self-defense, the disproportionate harm caused by modern warfare, and the need for diplomacy and nonviolent resistance as paths toward authentic and lasting peace. |
