  Abstract	The present study aimed to implement and evaluate a program of Parental Education and to study the relationship between the perception of parental educational competence (self-efficacy beliefs and satisfaction), parents’ self-esteem, and their children’s behavior and academic performance before and after the implementation of the program. Considering that the first years of school for a child require some changes in terms of family dynamics and generates some anxiety and anguish related to the expectations created, the program was built for a population of couples with children attending the first and second school grade years. It was based on an experimental methodology, with an experimental group (EG) and control group (CG). The instruments used were: Questionnaire of Perceptions of Parental Competence (Terrisse & Trudelle, 1988), which evaluates the feeling of Parental Educational self-efficacy, and satisfaction and the Rosenberg’s Self Esteem Scale. It was also used the SWAN Rating Scale which assesses children’s behavior from the perspective of teachers and the school performance was assessed through children’s grades before and after the Program. The results revealed significant differences in values before and after the implementation of the program, just on perceptions of parental self-efficacy which were higher in parents who attended the program. The subjective evaluation of the program carried on by the participating parents led to the conclusion that the program had a positive emotional impact on parents who participated. The limits and potential of the parental training programs are discussed after the results obtained with this research.
