| Abstract | I present hereby a brief review of a recent interpretation of Martin Heidegger’s project in Being and Time as a kind of ontological pluralism. I focus on McDaniel’s proposal of interpreting ways of being as ways of existence, which should be represented by special restricted existential quantifiers. Stressing the explanatory and exegetical virtues of conceiving Heidegger’s senses of being as expressed by restricted existential quantifiers, I also point out the limitation of such interpretation. By not linking the dependence of ways of being to Dasein’s understanding with the problem of manifest necessity, McDaniel’s proposal does not capture the hermeneutical nature of Heidegger’s ontological pluralism. As a result, this interpretation is not sensitive to the fact that semantically primitive quantifiers do not ‘cut so closer to the metaphysical joints’ as the hermeneutical notion of inner possibility does. |
