Abstract Several studies reveal associations between job and life satisfaction (Ferreira et al., 2009). Although less studied, also professional success and job longevity are crucial in this area (Herr et al., 2004; Lyubormsky et al., 2005). This study aims to explore the relationship between variables of subjective well-being (life satisfaction, positive and negative affectivity) and work dimensions (job longevity, success and satisfaction). 633 adults from different regions of the country (age, 36.4±9.94; 71% female and 29% male) participated in the study. Instruments included a socio-demographic and occupational (job satisfaction, success and longevity) questionnaire and subjective well-being (SWB) scales adapted to Portuguese population, such as Satisfaction With Life (SWL) Scale (Simões, 1992) and Positive (PA) and Negative Affect (NA) Scales (Simões, 1993). Descriptive and inferential (Pearson, p≤.05) analysis were conducted. There were statistically significant correlations between the variables of SWB. Also the work dimensions were statistically correlated (except job satisfaction with job longevity). We found statistically significant associations (p≤.01) between: job longevity and NA (r = .11); job success and SWL (r = .30), also PA (r = .27) and NA (r = - 21.); job satisfaction and SWL (r = .41), also PA (r = .24) and NA (r = -. 28).Many authors confirm these results particularly in job satisfaction, understood as a dimension of life satisfaction (e.g. Roberts et al., 2006). It seems crucial to extend this analysis to other work dimensions such as job success and longevity that have effect on workers subjective well-being. Given the centrality of work in our (happy) lives, it’s important to rethink psychosocial intervention in organizations, promoting the positive aspects of human functioning.
