Extra Robots in Social Media: a Mapping of Scientific Articles
    Series Number 1
    Language Portuguese
Abstract Automated profiles have emerged, in the last decade, as participants in digital social networks interactions and potential influencers of public debate and the political agenda. They became object of scientific investigation. The present chapter proposes to offer an answer to the following question: How is the scientific investigation characterized in the analysis of the social bots? The present paper carries out a mapping of texts published in periodicals that present the terms “social bots” or “social media bots” in order to observe the incidence of the phenomenon as an object of scientific investigation. The portal Periódicos CAPES of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Education) is the starting point for the bibliographic research. Through the search tool of the website, 143 articles were identified, classified by year, authorship, area of knowledge, keywords and language. It was possible to see that the study of social media robots has increased significantly – evidenced by the number of articles published each year since 2014. The texts demonstrate that the object “social bots” is adopted from different perspectives in areas such as computing, communication, politics, social sciences, information sciences, medicine, psychology, law, linguistics, administration, biology and tourism. The bibliometric study presented establishes an initial framework for the conceptual delimitation and deepening of robots that work in social media, a growing and important phenomenon for the communication field.
