| Abstract | A younger Habermas ignored the relationship between secularism and religious belief. In the 21st. century, however, he has sought to distinguish a conception of post secularism from both secularism and a religious stance given that the latter has become more a “subjective belief” rather than a public celebration. Indeed, with scientism’s triumph, atheism becomes the opium of the masses. His advocacy of post secularism, however, remains equivocal: it is unclear how it can be grounded within a post-metaphysical age, where a Substantive rationality is rejected whilst a Procedural one is endorsed instead. It is important, therefore, to examine the nature of his advocacy. |
